The IN BODY Lab

Sound, Light, and Vibration for Nervous System Regulation.

The IN BODY Lab offers a suite of cutting-edge Complimentary and Alternative (CAM) wellness services tested and hand picked by our Medical Director to complement Medicine Assisted Therapy. Featuring Vibroacoustic Therapy (VAT) and Audiovisual Entrainment (AVE), these non-invasive modalities use sound, vibration and light to offer gentle, yet powerful support for stress reduction, nervous system regulation, embodiment, and brain engagement.

Vibroacoustic Therapy (VAT): Sound & Vibration

What is VAT?

Vibroacoustic Therapy uses low-frequency sound and gentle vibration, delivered through a padded table or mat, to subtly "tune" the body and nervous system. You lie fully clothed, experiencing calming music paired with tactile vibration—a full-body sensory experience of sound and soma (the body).

Key Benefits for Healing

Research shows VAT is a powerful tool for supporting mind-body regulation:

  • Increases markers of the parasympathetic nervous system activity (the "rest and digest" state) and reduces sympathetic arousal (the stress response).

  •  Supports interoceptive awareness (the sense of the internal body), grounded embodiment, and recovery from chronic pain or somatic dysregulation.

  • Associated with reductions in perceived stress, anxiety, and improvements in overall mood.

A Typical VAT Session at CMAT

You lie comfortably on the table while low-frequency soundscapes play through speakers and transducers, creating the gentle vibration. An Registered Nurse or your therapist remains present throughout the session for support and grounding.

Audiovisual Entrainment (AVE): Light & Sound Brain Entrainment

What is AVE?

This modality utilizes a headset to deliver rhythmic sensory input—flashing LED light patterns and synchronized audio—aimed at gently entraining neural oscillations. This non-invasive input encourages favorable shifts in brainwave activity, promoting states like relaxation, meditation, or restorative rest.

Key Benefits for Neural Regulation

OLS offers a subtle, non-verbal approach to mental well-being:

  • Helps support shifts in brain states, potentially reducing anxiety and enhancing mental well-being.

  • Provides a gentle avenue to support neural integration following psychotherapeutic or medicine-assisted work.

  • Emerging research points to its potential role in maintaining neural connectivity and cognitive function.

A Typical AVE Session at CMAT

You sit or recline comfortably with eyes closed, wearing the light-and-sound headset. A guided session plays, typically lasting 10–15 minutes. An Registered Nurse or your therapist remains present throughout the session for support and grounding.

Combined Sound + Light Rebalancing Session

For a deep, multi-modal experience, CMAT offers a blended session combining the benefits of both therapies, supervised by an Registered Nurse.

This combination primes the body with VAT (supporting parasympathetic grounding), subtly engages the mind with AVE, and then uses VAT again to provide a gentle "landing" for the nervous system, fostering deep relaxation and mind–body coherence.

Typical Session Structure

  1. Vibroacoustic Warm-up (10 min): Gentle sound and vibration to ground the body.

  2. Audiovisual Entrainment (11 min): Headset-based light and sound session for brainwave engagement.

  3. Vibroacoustic Integration (~30 min): Return to full-body sound and vibration to anchor and integrate the experience.

  4. Post-Session Check-in (5–10 min): Gentle reorientation, hydration, and brief check-in.
